Why I started using essential oils

I first started using essential oils about 4 years ago. I had embarked on a low-tox lifestyle overhaul after testing showed that I had toxic levels of various heavy metals in my body. This had been a contributing factor to a persistent and worsening tremor that I was experiencing. Instead of simply trying to prescribe away the symptoms of my shaking hands and fluttering insides with beta blockers, I detoxed my body and home instead, and slowly reduced the tremor.
I felt empowered to resolve the situation I found myself in. With no clear culprit found in my immediate environment, instead I took control of the choices I could make about what I put in and on my body.
One of the first things I cut out of my daily routine was the use of perfume. Did you know that the ingredient of "fragrance", which is used in a multitude of personal care products, can be an umbrella term more than 3000 different ingredients, many of them nasty? Many of these products contain synthetics, allergens, environmental toxicants, and endocrine disruptors, which can play havoc with your body and hormones. They also contain substances like phthalates to help the fragrance of the perfume last. All of these are absorbed through your skin and into your cells and bloodstream.
So my perfume replacement was an essential oil blend that I purchased already blended. I wore that as my scent up until last year when I was introduced to dōTERRA products. My initial thinking was simply that I was thrilled that I could expand my perfume repertoire! However once I started learning about the oils and all of the wonderful benefits they can bring to your body, mind, emotions and home I was hooked and I haven't looked back. The oils have had such a positive impact on me, my family and my life that I can't help but share them.
