Can you be a bit judgemental with yourself about your food choices? 😬 Does the diet-obsessed culture of our society mean that you feel weighed down by not matching up with the media’s depiction of what ā€œhealthyā€ looks like?

Eating is essential for our function - as humans we need to do it pretty regularly! So if you are constantly bringing an element of morality or judgment to yourself this can affect other dimensions of your wellbeing - constant self-criticism can raise your stress, influence your interactions with other, impact your sleep and so on… (There is the secret to wellbeing - it is all connected!🤫)

Now food is definitely at the heart of how well our bodies work - it is the petrol for our life vehicles, so the better quality the fuel, the better we will operate. But there is no one way of eating that will suit everyone. Everyone is different, with different bodies and different needs - this is called ā€œbio-individualityā€. You need to work out what works for you. So in this context, here are two quick tips about eating for wellbeing:

  1. Bring an awareness to what you are eating (and also how it makes you feel afterwards), and make conscious choices. Avoid eating just out of habit, emotions, traditions, etc; and

  2. Make choices that are rooted in love and care for your body.

If your conscious choice is still one that might not be the best choice for your wellbeing, then don’t beat yourself up about it. Self-blame and self-criticism are toxic mind-benders! Enjoy it, eat it slowly and mindfully, and then go back to points (1) and (2) for the rest of your choices that day.
