This is why your mind is so amazing

Sometimes you can get stuck in patterns of thinking or beliefs that then shape your views about yourself, others, or your path in life. Becoming aware of your unconscious habits and feelings can be the beginning of creating a positive vision for your future that you can then take real action to bring into life.

A couple of weeks ago I had the incredible experience of attending a one-day workshop with Dr Joe Dispenza. I was really excited to experience this given my passion for meditation and all of the incredible things that I had heard about Dr Dispenza and his views about how you can change your body and mind with your thoughts, all based on his research involving neural scans and heart monitoring. (Yep, this satisfies the science nerd in me and my requirement for evidence-based research!)
Now this day, for me, was incredible. And there is no way that I can do it justice in a short blog post. However there were some key takeaway messages around thinking habits that I wanted to share in this forum because I think they are so powerful and useful when we are thinking about what our goals and intentions are for ourselves and how we start to go about creating changes in our lifestyle.

Dr Dispenza talked about how humans have approximately 60-70,000 thoughts per day, and about 90% of those thoughts are about the day before. This gets you stuck in a loop where you are influencing your thoughts, actions and feelings based on what has happened to you in the past, rather than your intention for the future.
In the context of your personal wellness this could be, say, thoughts around food choices, or your ability to be consistent with a meditation practice, or how your body feels or what it is capable of when exercising.
So bringing awareness to your unconscious habits and feelings will help you to stop being anchored to the past. Once you have that awareness you must ask yourself - do these thoughts and emotions belong in my future? Understanding that you can change your habits and feelings and evolve, no matter how old you are, is extremely powerful. You don't have to be stuck in a matrix where your experience of something and associated emotional reaction is "just how you are". None of us are hardwired to be a certain way forever, and if you allow yourself to bring new thoughts, information and knowledge into your awareness then this can create a new and positive flow for you, and can help you to change your behaviour and experience of life.
One benefit of meditation is that it is a tool that can change how you feel and break your preoccupation with the past, to help you get beyond the well-tread thought patterns that are familiar and comfortable to you but that are not necessarily positive or helpful for your future. So allowing yourself to view your future with a fresh perspective, rather than through the lens of the past, is liberating, and opens up possibility that is not being weighed down by our fears or self-protection mechanisms that can hold us back.
Do you remind yourself of who you want to be, or what you want your life to look like? Do you have an intention for your wellbeing? Fall in love with your future, with your body and your mind and all that you can achieve.
